U*ltima visita al centro! - 4to di*a de colegio 

 Los di*as pasan y estamos aprovechando la u*ltima parte del viaje. Ayer, a eso de las 10, salimos para el centro. Dado que los host no estaban obligados a venir, solamente Kara nos acompan;o*, porque el resto teni*a mucha tarea. Primero fuimos al Museo de Ciencia e Industria, en el cua*l vimos muchas cosas interactivas y futuri*sticas. Jugue* una competencia mental con Coquito en la cua*l hay una mesa con una pelotita en el medio y ambos participantes se tienen que poner una banda magne*tica en la cabeza. El que tiene la mente ma*s relajada empuja la bolita al otro lado y gana. No quiero decir quie*n gano* porque quedari*a 1-soberbio o 2-humillado jajajajajaja :) . Tambie*n vimos una peli*cula sobre arrecifes en una pantalla increi*ble. Es como la del IMAX pero curvada y declinada 45 grados. Uno se siente adentro de la peli*cula. Salimos del museo y fuimos al planetario. Almorzamos y vimos una peli*cula sobre restos satelitales alrededor de la Tierra. Por u*ltimo fuimos al acuario, lo mejor del di*a en lo personal. Eran increi*bles las diferentes especies que habi*an, incluyendo serpientes, lagartos, delfines, y una gran variedad de peces y medusas. A la noche, algunos pocos fuimos a la casa de Kara. Hoy a la manana me desperte* con dificultad, despue*s de un fin de semana de cuatro di*as. Despue*s del almuerzo, cambie* de host con Lucas y me fui con Marty a Qui*mica. Vimos un video sobre modificar cosas a nivel ato*mico. En el u*ltimo peri*odo fuimos a una charla con algunos alumnos del Marist para discutir sobre las diferencias entre Argentina y Estados Unidos. Despue*s del colegio nos quedamos a ver una peli*cula y comer pizza con los hosts. Fuimos directamente desde el colegio a la casa de Anna Senteno, y acabamos de volver hace ma*s o menos media hora. Estoy muy triste porque queda poco tiempo, pero voy a tratar de aprovecharlo lo mejor posible con mis amigos.

Last trip to downtown - 4th day of school

The days pass by and we are taking advantage of the last part of the trip. Yesterday, at 10, we headed for the downtown. Due to the fact that the hosts didn`t have to come, just Kara came with us, because the rest had a lot of homework. First we went to the Science and Industry Museum, in which we saw a lot of interactive and futuristic stuff. I challenged Coquito to a game in which there was a table, a little ball in the middle, and two special bands. Each of the players put a band on and the one with the most relaxed mind pushes the ball to the opposite side, winning. I do not wanna say who won :) . We also watched a movie about reefs, and the screen made you feel like you were inside the movie. After that we went to the planetarium. We had lunch and watched a movie about satelite trash around the Earth. Finally we went to the aquarium, the best of the day. There were a lot of different species, including snakes, lizzards, dolphines and  great variety of fishes and jellies. At night, some of us went to Kara`s. Today I had a hard time waking up, after a 4 day weekend. After lunch, I switched hosts with Lucas, and went to Chemistry with Marty. In the last mod we went to a discussion with some Marist`s students about the differences between Argentina and USA. After school we watched a movie with the hosts and ate pizza with them. Then we went straight to Anna Senteno`s house, and just got home like half an hour ago. I`m very sad there are not too many days left, but I will try to take advantage of it with my friends.

Di*a familiar - Navy Pier y vuelta en bote

El domingo me levante* a las 11.00 para ir a Misa con la familia. La celebracio*n fue muy parecida a las de Argentina, pero en ingle*s. Cuando volvimos, acompane* a Maggie a Target, y despue*s pasamos a buscar a Mary, una amiga suya. Almorzamos en la casa de los Bentley, y fuimos a la casa de la ti*a de Jordan, donde habi*an invitado a todos. Jugamos football americano, comimos, y a eso de las 7 fuimos a un Haunted Hayride, una vuelta en una especie de jeep enorme que pasaba por diferentes escenas y habi*an personajes que se subi*an al vehi*culo (todo tema*tico por Halloween). Era algo casero, en una granja. Despue*s de eso, algunos fueron a dormir a la casa de Hannah y otros a la de Sarah, la host de Marcos. Yo fui a la casa de Sarah, y los u*nicos varones eran Marcos y yo. Nos quedamos despiertos hasta alrededor de las 3, y nos fuimos a dormir a un cuarto separado. Hoy me desperte*, baje* al piso de abajo (donde estaba el resto de la gente) y comi* unas donas de desayuno. Maggie y yo salimos a las 11.30 para llegar a la casa a las 12. Me cambie* y a la 1 llegamos al colegio, donde me encontre* con el resto de los argentinos para ir al centro. Primero fuimos a Navy Pier, donde nos subimos a un simulador y a la rueda de la fortuna. Tuvimos un tiempo libre en la ciudad, y a las 5.30 nos tomamos un barquito que salio* primero al lago Michigan y que luego se metio* adentro de la ciudad. Pudimos ver todos los edificios de noche, estuvo muy bueno. Volvimos a la zona donde estamos viviendo, y en el colegio nos juntamos a decidir que* hacer a la noche. Finalmente so*lo unos pocos fuimos a lo de Cassie. Manana vamos a ir a un museo, al planetario y al acuario. La falta de los hosts hace una gran diferencia, pero nos vamos a divertir igual. 

Family day - Navy Pier and the boat

On Sunday I woke up at 11.00 to go to Mass with the family. The celebration was very similar to the ones in Argentina, but in English. When we came back, I went with Maggie to Target, and then we went for Mary, Maggie`s friend. We had lunch at home and later we went to Jordan`s aunt`s house, where all of us had been invited. We played football, got some food, and about 7 we went to a Haunted Hayride. I was homemade, in a farm, but it was good. After that, some of us went to sleep to Hannah`s home and some of us went to Sarah`s, Marcos` host. I went to Sarah`s, and the only boys were Marcos and me. We were awake until 3, and Marcos and I went to sleep to a different room. Today I woke up, went downstairs (where the rest of the people were) and got some donuts for breakfast. Maggie and I left at 11.30 to get home at 12. I changed my clothes and we got to school at 1, where I met with the rest of the Argentinians to go to the downtown. We first went to Navy Pier, where we got into a simulator and tried the ferris wheel. We had some free time around the city, and at 5.30 we took a boat that first got into the Michigan Lake and then inside the city. We could see all the buildings at night, it was good. We came back to the area in which we are living, and at school we tried to decide what to do at night. In the end just a few of us went to Cassie`s. Tomorrow we are going to a museum, the planetarium and the aquarium. The lack of the hosts makes a big difference, but anyway we are going to have a great time.

Un di*a muy completo - La torre Willis

Ayer fue nuestro tercer di*a de colegio, y fue cuando me di cuenta de que todos los di*as son las mismas materias en los mismos peri*odos! En el almuerzo me sente* con Lucas, Marty, Cassie, Maggie y algunos ma*s. Despue*s de Historia, nos preparamos para el partido de soccer. Nos cambiamos en uno de los banos del colegio y todo paso* tan ra*pido que para cuando me di cuenta ya habi*a tocado la campana que marcaba el principio del partido. En la primera jugada, la pelota salio* afuera de la cancha. Para nuestra sorpresa el partido siguio* sin que el a*rbitro dijera nada, y fue ahi* cuando nos dimos cuenta de que estabamos jugando sin la regla de la pelota afuera. Segu*n Leandro, nuestra sorpresa se reflejaba en nuestras caras de desesperacio*n! Fueron treinta minutos de juego en los cuales nos cansamos bastante, pero al menos pudimos hacerles frente y el partido termino 8 a 8. Despue*s fui a casa a ducharme y cambiarme, y volvimos para el asado, el cua*l estuvo bueni*simo. Ma*s tarde fuimos al partido de football. La preparacio*n era increi*ble, con una orquesta que tocaba perfecto y porristas en las tribunas. Nos fuimos en el final del tercer tiempo (son cuatro tiempos) a la casa de Anna Thomas, la host de Clara, y volvi* a casa alrededor de las 11.30. Hoy a la 1.00 nos reunimos en la puerta del colegio y fuimos al centro. Lo primero que hicimos fue subir a la torre Willis. Podi*amos ver toda la ciudad desde ahi*, y nos sacamos fotos en ek balco*n de vidrio. Bajamos de la torre (nuestros oidos estaban tapados por la presio*n) y nos dejaron libres en la ciudad con un punto de encuentro a las 6. Volvimos y fuimos al partido de Chicago Fire vs. Toronto, pero previamente nos quedamos en el estacionamiento a comer, porque las familias de los hosts habi*an preparado comida para la tailgate (una tradicio*n en la cua*l la gente se junta a comer antes del partido). Despue*s del partido fuimos a la casa de Kara, y volvi* hace media hora. Manana es Family Day, asi* que voy a pasar la mayor parte del di*a con la familia que me aloja. Es bastante tarde asi* que me voy a ir a dormir!

A very full day - The Willis tower

Yesterday was our third day of school, and it was when I realized that they have the same subjects in the same mods every day! I had lunch with Lucas, Marty, Cassie, Maggie and some other more. After History we got ourselves ready for the soccer game. We changed our clothes in one of the school restrooms, and everything happened so fast that I didn`t realize that the match had already started. The ball went out at the beginning of the match. The game continued and the referee didn`t say anything, and that was when we realized that we weren`t playing with the ball out rule. According to Leandro, he could see in our faces that we weren`t expecting that. They were thirty minutes of playing, during which we got very exhausted, but at least we could stand and the match ended in a draw. After that I went home to have a shower and change my clothes, and we came back for the asado, which was excellent. Later we went to the football game. The way in which it was set up was amazing. There were even a band and cheerleaders! We went at the end of the third round (they are four) to Anna Thomas house, and I came home about 11.30. Anna is Clara`s host. Today at 1.00 we went to the downtown. First of all we went to the Willis tower. We could see the whole city from there, and we got some photos in the glass balcony. We left the tower and were given some free time to walk around. Then we went to the Chicago Fire vs. Toronto game, but before we stayed at the parking lot because of the tailgate. After that we went to Kara`s house and I came back like half an hour ago. Tomorrow is family day, so I will spend most of the day with my host family. It`s pretty late, so I`m going to get some sleep!

Conociendo el colegio - Visita al centro

El martes a la manana, Kayleigh, la amiga de Maggie, nos paso* a buscar en su camioneta. Yo estaba nervioso porque todavi*a no habi*a ido al colegio nunca, y no sabi*a que iba a pasar. Llegamos y cuando entramos toda la gente me miraba (o al menos yo teni*a esa sensacio*n). Por fin me encontre* con el resto del grupo, y nos metimos en un salo*n especial con nuestros hosts y algunos profesores y directivos. Nos presentamos mejor, tomamos un desayuno y cada uno se fue con su host. Mi primera clase fue la de Espanol, en la cual obviamente pude participar sin problemas. Despue*s fuimos a Matema*tica, en la cua*l hicieron un repaso de muchos temas juntos. Tuvimos una hora libre en Catequesis, y en Lengua se hizo un repaso para el PSAT (el examen que los alumnos JUNIOR dieron ayer). En el almuerzo me sente* con Lucas, su host Marty, y unos amigos suyos. Nos habi*an dado una tarjeta cargada con creo que $50 para poder pagar la comida, asi* que con mi tarjeta pedi* una hamburguesa con papas. La gente nos miraba tambie*n en el comedor, y Lucas y yo nos rei*amos. A eso de la 1.00 tuve Qui*mica, donde me sente* en un grupo e hicimos un trabajo pra*ctico (o mejor dicho, miraba como lo haci*an, porque me costo* bastante jajaja). En el final tuvimos Historia, y fue una clase oral en la que hablamos de los esclavos en las colonias del este y del oeste. Despue*s fui a la casa por un rato, y fui a ver a Marty jugar al fu*tbol (soccer), porque iban bastantes. Comi* en McDonalds y fuimos a la casa de Hannah (la host de Coco) hasta las 10.30. Al otro di*a Maggie rindio* el PSAT y los alojados fuimos al centro. Vimos el poroto gigante (jajajaja "poroto"), caminamos por el Millenium Park y fuimos al Cultural Center y al Field, donde vimos una exposicio*n de luz en la oscuridad que estaba bastante buena, y vimos fo*siles de dinosaurios. Volvimos a la 1.00 y comimos en el colegio. En el auto de Cassie, una amiga de Maggie (y ahora tambie*n mi*a) llevamos a Agusti*n y a su host Nick a su casa, y fuimos a lo de Kara, otra host de la que me hice amigo (como el resto de los hosts). De ahi* fuimos a KFC y a unos kartings, y despue*s fuimos a lo de Marty hasta eso de las 10.00. Hoy me levante* a las 6.40 para ir al colegio, y a las 7.20 paso* Kayleigh como los dos di*as anteriores. En el almuerzo me sente* con Maggie y el resto de los alojados que podi*an comer a esa hora (peri*odo F). Despue*s de Qui*mica, nos sacaron a todos los alojados de nuestras clases y nos llevaron a aprender un poco de football (americano) porque manana vamos a ir a un partido y queri*an ensenarnos las reglas y a jugar un poco. Volvi* a la casa, me duche* y fui a un mall con Kara y algunos alojados. Comimos en el mall y volvimos todos a la casa de Maggie porque todos nos ibamos a juntar ahi*. Se fueron a las 10.00 y ahora estoy escribiendo esto! Manana es un di*a largo, por muchos motivos. Para empezar, manana es el partido de Argentina Vs. EEUU en el gimnasio del Marist; despue*s esta* el asado del Hermano Marcelo; y por u*ltimo vamos a ver un partido de football americano del Marist. Ahora voy a irme a dormir, pero primero... tengo que volver a escribir esta entrada en ingle*s!

Getting to know the school - Going to the Downtown

On Tuesday morning, Kayleigh, Maggie`s friend, came for us on her van. I was nervous because I had never been to the school yet. We arrived and when we got in, all the people were staring at me (or that is what I felt). Finally I met the rest of the group and we got into a special room with our hosts and some people from the school (not students, but teachers, brothers, etc.). We introduced ourselves better, had breakfast, and each of us left with his/her host. My first class was Spanish, followed by Maths, Religion and English. I lunched with Lucas, his host Marty, and some friends of his. We had been given a card charged with about $50 so that we could pay for the food, so with my card I got a cheese burger with fries. People were staring at us even at lunch, so Lucas and me laughed. About 1.00 I had Chemistry, and at the end we had History. After that I went to the house for a while, and I went to see Marty`s soccer game because some of us were going. I ate at McDonalds and we went to Hannah`s (Coco`s host) until 10.30. At the following day Maggie had the PSAT, and the hosted went to Downtown. We saw the giant bean, walked through the Millenium Park and went to the Cultural Center and the Field, where we saw a light expo, which was pretty good, and we saw dinosaur fossils. We came back at 1.00 and had lunch at school. We took Agustin and his host Nick the their house on Cassie`s car, a friend of Maggie (and now mine too).  Then we went to Kara`s, another host. From there we went to KFC and to the go-karts, and then we went to Marty`s till 10.00. Today I woke up at 6.40, and at 7.20 Kayleigh came for us, just like the previous days. I had lunch with Maggie and the hosted guys who were able to have lunch at that time (mod F). After Chemistry, they taught us some rules of football and also how to pass the ball and stuff like that. I went back to the house, had a shower and went to the mall with Kara and some Argentinians. We ate at the mall and we all went to Maggie`s house, because we were all meeting there. They left at 10.00 and now I`m writing this! Tomorrow is a long day, for many reasons. First of all, there`s the Argentina Vs. USA soccer match; after that there`s Brother Marcelo`s asado, and finally we are going to see a Marist`s football game. Now I am going to get some sleep!

Llegamos!!! La espera valio la pena...

Ayer a la maniana - acue*rdense que aca* no hay acentos ni enies! Voy a usar astericos como acentos -, un grupo de 6 chicos y 8 chicas del Colegio Champagnat llego* al aeropuerto (o mejor dicho, a uno de los aeropuertos) de la ciudad de Chicago. Por suerte, yo soy parte de ese grupo que fue elegido para este intercambio (soy uno de los 6, no una de las 8 jajajaja). Uno de los cla*sicos colectivos escolares amarillos nos paso* a buscar, con el Hermano Patrick en e*l, y fuimos hasta el Marist High School, donde cada uno conocio* a su host y se fue a pasar el di*a con e*l/ella. Yo almorze* en un restora*n que se llama Portillo`s. Despue*s fui a la casa y me mostraron mi cuarto. Estaba todo ordenadito y habi*a una remera colgada de los BlackHawks, la cual me regalaron. Los BlackHawks es el equipo de Hockey de Chicago. Conoci* a toda la familia y a algunos amigos y amigas de Maggie. Primero vinieron algunas a la casa, y despue*s fuimos a la casa de otra, que tiene dos hermanos (son trillizos). Solamente conoci* a uno de sus hermanos, y me lleve* bien con ellos. La chica es la que me va a llevar al colegio todos los di*as, asi* que es bueno ya haberla conocido. A continuacio*n fuimos a ver un partido de Hockey con algunos del Champagnat y sus hosts. Comi* en Portillo`s de nuevo con algunos amigos y volvi* a la casa para ducharme y dormir. Hoy me desperte*, tome* el desayuno y sali* con Maggie para el colegio. Llegamos puntuales, a las 10:30. Me dieron un celular y fuimos a los Outlets. Comimos alla*, en Subway, y volvimos al Marist a las 7 de la tarde. Vimos un partido de fu*tbol (fu*tbol, no football) y comimos ahi*, porque habi*a una especie de pizza party. El papa* de Maggie nos paso* a buscar y vinimos a la casa, donde empece* a escribir en el blog. Algo gracioso que paso* en el di*a fue que se me cayo* el celular al agua jajaja, pero ahora anda bien. Ahora me voy a duchar y a dormir. Manana es un di*a importante porque es la primera vez que vamos al colegio, asi* que estoy muy inquieto. Vamos a ver que tal nos va a todos!

We arrived!!! Worth the wait...

Yesterday at morning, a group of 6 boys and 8 girls from Champagnat school arrived at the city of Chicago. Luckily, I'm part of that group that was chosen for this exchange (I'm one of the 6, not one of the 8 hahahaha). One of the classic yellow school buses came for us, with Brother Patrick on it, and we went to the Marist High School, where everyone of us met his/ her host and went to spend the day with them. I had lunch at a restaurant called Portillo`s. Then I went to the house and I was shown my room, where I found a BlackHawks shirt, a gift from the Bentleys. The BlackHawks is the hockey team of Chicago. I met the whole family and some friends of Maggie. First, some came to the house, and then we went to another friend`s home, who has two brothers (they are triplets). I only met one of her brothers, and I got on very well with them. The girl is the one who is going to take me to school, so it`s good to have already met her. After that we went to a Hockey game with some Champagnat guys and their hosts. I had dinner at Portillo`s again with some friends and then went back to the house to get a shower and sleep. Today I woke up, had breakfast and went to Marist with Maggie. We arrived just in time, at 10:30. I was given a cell phone and we went to the outlets. We had lunch there, at Subway, and went back to Marist at 7:00. We watched a soccer game and had dinner there, because there was some kind of Pizza Party. Maggie`s dad went to fetch us from the school and we came back to the house, where I started writing in the blog. Something funny that happened was that I dropped my phone in water hahaha, but now it`s working very well. Now I`m going to get a shower and sleep. Tomorrow is an important day because it`s the first time we will be going to school, so I`m a bit nervous. Let`s see how we all do!
